Day 1 – Arrival in Coimbatore & Drive to Coonoor
You will be picked up at the Coimbatore Airport by private car and taken to the Nature Resort Kurumba Village in Coonoor. This city is the second largest mountain station in Nilgiri, surrounded by tea plantations, at an altitude of 1839 meters. During the British colonial era, it served as a hill station for senior military and civilian officials. You fabulous hotel is a lush place, a sanctuary for the senses, where the land is looked after and life-affirming moments happen all the time. Named after the Kurumbas, a forgotten tribe, the resort is a tribute to the ancient clan who was happy with nature and biodiversity in this region. Breathe in the intoxicating aroma of nutmeg, pepper and cloves in peace. The whole complex was artfully carved in a 10-hectare spice plantation into a hill. And that without falling a single tree!
Day 2 – Coonor – Toy Train Drive to Ooty & Sightsseing
Today, after breakfast, a narrow-gauge railway/rack railway “Toy Train” ride to Ooty (Udagamandalam) awaits you. During the British colonial era, this railway served as a hill station for the senior military and civilian officials. The train originally comes from Mettupalayam and leads to your destination, which is reached after about 2 hours. Ooty is also called the “Queen of Nilgiri” because it is wonderful. It is the former summer capital of British India and a favorite spot for many romantic Bollywood, Tamil and regional Indian films, the British “discovered” the station in the 1820s and fell in love with her, building their houses here and providing them with all the facilities – golf courses, racetracks, hunting clubs, gardens and parks – that reminded them of their nation. Once in the city, begin the sightseeing tour, including the highest point from South India, the Doddabetta Mountain, Ooty Lake, Rose Garden, and St. Stephen’s Church, later drive back to Coonoor by private car.
Day 3 – Coonor – Tea Tour
You can only relax on this day. On request, you can make an exciting tea tour with all the trimmings. First, visit the “Green Shop” – this shop sells organic products from local tribes like the Kurumbas. These include eucalyptus oil, ginger honey, organic spices, natural cosmetics, wooden toys, scarves and bags. This is followed by a tea factory, a short tour of a charming factory founded by the son of Maharajah of Cochin. You will see the whole manufacturing process of the tea, with all the little details. Finally, there is a good chance for you to enjoy a delicious tea tasting or even a tea lunch at the sister resort. This lunch is a unique meal created by master chefs. Each course is flavoured with a portion of the tea. Otherwise, you can make yourself comfortable in the pool.
