Varanasi & Khajuraho
This spiritual experience takes you to the holy city Varanasi and Khajuraho, two beautiful places. The tour extension starts first in the most sacred city of the Hindus on the Ganges river: Varanasi (also Benares or Kashi). There you will be surprised by the religious bells, the hymns of the priests, the scent of flowers and bathing pilgrims. You will explore the diversity of one of the oldest cities in the world adventurously. At sunrise, take a rowboat on the river, then visit the attractions, including Sarnath. There Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) taught the Dharma after his enlightenment and founded the sangha. Everything is followed by a pompous Aarti ceremony dedicated to the goddess Ganga. The ceremony is performed with torches and small rituals. Finally, it heads to the exciting city of Khajuraho, known for the western temple groups. Among them: the 1000-year-old erotic Kamasutra, adorned with sculptures of gods, dancers and angels, were built according to the strict rules of the Jainists.
Day 1 – Arrival in Varanasi – via. Delhi or Mumbai
Today, the experience begins in Varanasi (also Benares or Kashi), it is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi is the most important of the seven holy cities of the Hindus, also one of the oldest cities of the earth. It is not only a pilgrimage destination but also the spiritual capital of traditional Hindu culture. The bath in the Ganges river purifies of the sins committed and is supposed to promise absolution. You will be picked up at the airport by the chauffeur and taken to the hotel. You can relax the rest of the day.
Day 2 – Varanasi – Sightseeing & Excursion to Sarnath
At sunrise, ride a rowboat on the river Ganga, you can watch the pilgrims: as they bathe or meditate quietly. Then, visit Varanasi, including the Kashi Vishwanath Shiva Temple, the Assi Ghat and the Ramnagar Fortress. Surrounded by the sound of bells, hymns of the priests, the scent of flowers and the spectacle of “bathing ghats” – you can gain insight into the spiritual religion of Hinduism. Later, you take a trip to Sarnath, where Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) taught the Dharma after his enlightenment and founded the Sangha. You will see there: the Buddhist Dhamek & Chaukhandi stupa temples, the Buddha statue and the Sarnath museum.
Day 3 – Flight to Khajuraho – Sightseeing
On this day you fly to Khajuraho, popular for its temples. Check in at the hotel. Later, you will visit the city. You will see many temples, including the Kamasutra temples. Over 1000 years ago, 87 such temples were built, and 25 of them are still preserved, adorned with sculptures of gods, dancers and angels, each of them made according to Jainist rules. Otherwise, you can even see the Jain Temple Museum, Lakshmi Temple, Ajaygarh Fort, Dubelah Museum, Kandaria Mahadev Temple and the Gangau Dam.
Day 4 – Fly back to Delhi
